Vacuum Bell Treatment for Pectus Excavatum

About Vacuum Bell treatment for Pectus Excavatum

The Vacuum Bell is a simple non-invasive device for treatment of Pectus Excavatum. It consists of a silicone 'bowl' with a hand pump that creates a suction over the chest. The suction then lifts the sternum to a normal shape.

Vacuum Bell Therapy is the most effective non-surgical option for Pectus Exacavtum treatment and is used often by doctors and Pectus Excavatum specialists worldwide.

Vacuum Bell Therapy Guide

Fitment and placement

The Vacuum Bell should be wide enough to cover the entire sunken chest but not cover the nipples. The middle of the Vacuum Bell should be centered at the deepest point of the funnel chest.

Hair on the chest may interfere with the seal of the Vacuum Bell. If you are losing suction, you may need to trim some hair.

Application

Ensure the black air bleed screw is tightened. It does not need to be overly tight. When finished, unscrew the bleed valve to release the suction.

Body position

Achieving good posture in the thoracic spine is important before applying the Vacuum Bell. Here are two simple ways to achieve this: Lie flat on a bed or floor, push the chest out and then begin pumping the Bell.

Another method is to lean back into a chair whilst pushing the chest out and then apply the Vacuum Bell. Be careful not to apply too much pressure at first. Stop if any pain arises.

Duration

Initially, sessions should last 30 minutes to an hour, but over time, the duration can be increased to two or more hours daily.

Side effects

Some common side effects include skin bruising and skin discoloration. These usually cease after continued use. Fluid accumulation can also occur when the pressure is too high.

After Therapy

After Vacuum Bell Therapy, try to maintain good posture at all times for best results. Ensure your bedding is adequate for good posture at night, using a firm mattress that doesn't sag and a thin pillow to avoid forward slouching. This makes the Vacuum Bell therapy much more effective.

Vacuum Bell results

Consistent daily use is required to gain results. Our Vacuum Bell has been designed for comfort and to make daily use easy. Most users integrate the Vacuum Bell Therapy into their daily routine, just as one does when brushing their teeth.

Results are usually seen after the first session, but more permanent gains often take longer. Posture improvements and relief from cardiopulmonary symptoms begin immediately once the sunken chest has lifted, usually after the first session. You can maintain these results with everyday use and keeping good posture between the sessions.

How to clean

After each use, remove the pump and clean it with soapy water. Re-apply the pump after the Vacuum Bell has dried. For ongoing support or If you have any further questions, please contact us at
