You are definitely not alone when it comes to Pectus Excavatum. Actually, many celebrities and other famous people have the condition! I have put together a list of 10 celebrities and famous people with Pectus Excavatum, including photos. You may be surprised who shows up on this list!
1. Mick Fleetwood
Mick Fleetwood, drummer and a founding member of the band Fleetwood Mac is seen here on the cover of their 1968 album ‘Mr Wonderful. He has a clear case of severe and asymmetrical Pectus Excavatum. It is probably more noticeable because of his low body weight.
2.Oscar Isaac
Oscar Isaac is best known for his roles in Dune, Spider-Man, and, most recently, Star Wars. He has what looks like only a mild case of a Pectus, but should still be medically evaluated to check for cardiovascular impairment. Pectus Excavatum specialists usually treat milder cases with the Vacuum Bell.
3. Billy Zane
Billy Zane is most famous for his role as Caledon Hockley in James Cameron’s Titanic. This actor has a decent case of symmetrical Pectus Excavatum. His well-developed pectoral muscles may be covering up the extent of the indent.
4. Joaquin Phoenix
This still frame clearly shows Joaquin has a moderate, wide case of Pectus Excavatum, which appears to be significantly covered by his pectoral muscles. A CT scan could be used to investigate the severity of the indent and check for cardiopulmonary impairment.
5. Prince Harry
The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, has a moderate case of Pectus Excavatum. His Pectus is slightly less common, being isolated to the lower portion of his sternum rather than running the full length. Isolated Pectus Excavatum is a good candidate for the Vacuum Bell.
6. Steve Reeves
Highly successful as a bodybuilder and actor, Steve Reeves had one of the best physiques of all time. Even today, many consider his proportions and size to be an example of physical perfection. Reeves is a good example of why exercises for Pectus Excavatum are important. Exercises not only improve appearance but also benefit physical health, such as improving posture and shoulder mobility.
7. Patrick Swayze
Patrick Swayze was an iconic American actor who starred in many hit movies, including ‘Dirty Dancing’. He appears to have a mostly cosmetic, mild Pectus Excavatum deformity.
8. Parker Cannon
Parker Cannon is the lead singer of the American pop punk band “The Story So Far”. He has the most severe case of Pectus Excavatum on this list. Parker would probably benefit a lot from the Nuss Procedure surgery to raise his sternum from pressing on his heart and lungs. You can read more information here about Pectus Excavatum surgery
9. Cody Miller
Cody Miller is an American professional swimmer and gold medal winner. He has severe Pectus Excavatum isolated to his lower sternum. Given his performance, his cardiovascular performance doesn’t seem too impaired. This may be because his case is limited to the lower portion of his chest and does not displace the heart. A CT scan would show if the heart or lungs are being affected.
10. Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser is a Hollywood actor most known for his role in the film ‘George of the Jungle'. Despite his sunken chest, he was still chosen for the lead role to be shirtless throughout much of the film. I think this shows how much the average person even notices Pectus Excavatum.
